October Activities To Do!

By: Emma Birdsong

As we get deeper into the fall season, many students find themselves flooded with school, sports, and homework. Give yourself a break by trying this list of must-dos!

  1. Admire the autumn foliage. Take a simple walk, explore the beautiful scenery with a foliage cruise, or wander along the Greenway Open Market. If these options aren’t available for you, take a bit of time to look out the window and watch the leaves change.
  1. Watch the biggest rowing event in the world! The Head of the Charles Regatta will take place this year from October 20 to 22, so stop by and cheer on Winsor’s crew team! The river will be bustling with competitors from all over the world, with over 11,000 people racing to place top in their event.
  1. Do you like cranberries? Cranberry bogs cover 13,250 acres of Massachusetts, so check out the Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog in Patriot’s Place, Foxborough, right behind Gillette Stadium. Walk along the scenic trail, which is open from dawn to dusk seven days a week, and explore its seven acres of cranberry bogs during harvest season, which is from mid-September to mid-November.
  1. Go apple picking! October is the perfect time for apple picking, so invite your family and friends to enjoy a wonderful day trip! Orchards near Boston include Parlee Farm, Brooksby Farm, Smolak Farm, Russell Orchard, and Honey Pot Hill Orchard.
  1. Calling all lovers of old books! The Boston International Antiquarian Book Fair takes place from October 27 to 29 and features rare, collectible, and antique collections worldwide.
  1. BOO! Salem Haunted Happenings runs throughout October. Events include the Grand Parade, the Haunted Biz Baz Street Fair, Family Film Nights, costume balls, ghost tours, haunted houses, live music, and theatrical presentations. Note: it’s always very crowded in Salem during October, but it is still a fun trip.

So get out there and enjoy the world! You all deserve some rest and fun. And even if you don’t end up doing any of the things on this list, pay attention to yourself and make sure to relax. A little self-care goes a long way!
