A New Chapter: Class I and Class V First Month Review

By: Ondine Goedhuis

The first month of school has been the usual rollercoaster for Winsor. From the excitement of seeing friends again and the athletic season beginning, to incredible class retreats and overnight trips, so many highlights have filled the past month. The start of school can be especially exciting for Class I and Class V students, as they begin a new chapter in their education.

Class I students shared some of their favorite moments from the first month of school. Alex Chen ʼ31 described how engaging her classes were. She especially loved English because “Ms. Stringfellow is so nice and teaches so well.” Emily Doe ʼ31 said that “making new friends” has been the best thing that has happened to her at Winsor so far, and Wren Gourley ʼ31 added that she appreciated “how small Class I is because you can be close with everyone.” The varied interests and personalities of the Class of ʼ31 are also reflected in their hopes for this year. Laena Humphrey ʼ31 most anticipates “performing in the Class I play,” an annual tradition that is special to Class I and always enjoyed by the rest of the school. Doe looks forward to Spirit Week, because she “has the perfect outfits for every day” and cannot wait to showcase her diverse range of fashion choices!

As the Class I students have built friendships and explored Winsor for the first time, Class V has been adjusting to the new opportunities and privileges offered in the Upper School. Yasmeen Alam ʼ27 is enjoying the “free periods and having more flexibility” to figure out how to use her own time. Many of the ninth graders are also eager to gain their off-campus privileges in the second semester, so that they can go out for food or a walk in their free time. The retreat to Hale Reservations has been another favorite among Class V. Ava Pertruzziello ʼ27 especially loved being able to “bond with classmates” while trying “ropes courses, gaga ball, and four square.” Additionally, Class V courses are always exciting; both Alam and Pertruzziello are enjoying their history classes so far, while Bela Patel ʼ27 shared that she “love[s] [her] advanced geometry class!” Overall, both Class I and Class V are excited about their new classes, freedoms, and getting to know each other better as they embark on their Winsor journeys!
