Fall Sports Update

A full month has passed since fall sports began. The Banner interviewed members of the Varsity sports teams to gain a greater understanding of how different fall sports at Winsor are going.

Iris Shen ’26 said that cross country is off to a great start, presenting “very strong” at Eastern Independent League (EIL) meets. With 29 Upper and Lower School members, the team this year is very large, which Shen added “helps us to work hard and push ourselves.”

So far, Varsity Soccer is looking strong with two wins and one loss. Even to someone who is not on the soccer team, it is apparent that team members are always cheering each other on and having a great time, and have a vibrant sense of community. Crew member Amber Renthal ’25 exclaimed, “the soccer team has so much fun!”

Varsity Volleyball this year is composed mainly of returning members, which Kelly Yin ’26 believes makes the team “feel even more cohesive and bonded than last year.” So far, they have a record of 3–7. Yin explained, “Many of our losses were close games and great learning experiences, so we will be using what we have learned to develop our playing!”

Field hockey is starting off strong with one win, one tie, and one loss. Theo Zarrow ’26 added that there “appears to be a shortage” of field hockey teams in their conference, so they “have been playing the same teams,” but they are using this challenge to continue improving together.

Crew has participated in two regattas so far, and they have performed well in both. This year, Corinne Kreder ’26 noted that she and her teammates have been placed in “many different boats,” which allows them to row and talk with everyone on the team.

Overall, there is a common theme of community throughout each fall sport. All teams, regardless of their record, are bonding and having fun together. Fall sports are off to a great start, and we are excited to see how much athletes will continue to improve!
