This fall, Winsor welcomes the new Creative Writing Club, co-headed by Bonnie Shao ’27, Carmel Harrison ’27, and Elyse Hychong ’26, and advised by English Teacher Ms. Jackson. The club offers a space for writers of all levels to get creative and express themselves in a supportive environment. The Creative Writing Club stemmed from a shared passion for writing among its founders. Harrison emphasized the heads’ desire to establish a space that was purely recreational. She explained, “We wanted to create a space for writing where nothing feels intimidating or high stakes; it’s just a place to have fun with all different types of genres.” By focusing on enjoyment and exploration rather than perfection, this club is accessible to everyone.
Creative Writing Club members have the chance to explore styles that differ from the typical practices in their everyday classes. Anna Quigley ’27 shared, “One thing that I love about the Creative Writing Club is that there is a unique [and] entertaining activity at each club meeting.” This semester, the club has primarily focused on interactive activities designed to spark creativity. In a recent meeting, members rolled story cubes to generate random prompts and crafted short stories based on the symbols they rolled. These playful exercises encouraged members to unleash their imaginations and provided a platform for sharing individual perspectives that can inspire others. As Quigley noted, “It is quite fun to hear the creativity from your peers!”

The club heads aspire to broaden their activities to include workshops, open mic nights, and collaborative projects. Their goal is to foster an enriching environment that continually inspires creativity. Additionally, Harrison expressed their plan to invite authors to share their expertise and offer insight into their diverse styles and genres of writing. Their hope is to enhance members’ skills by connecting them with professional writers. The Creative Writing Club is positioned to become a hub for expression in the Winsor community. Whether you’re an experienced writer or just starting out, this club is the perfect opportunity to explore new skills and connect with fellow writers. Be sure to check it out during Day 4 in Room 205 at lunch! ☐
