Chicken & Rice Guys: Eat It

By Lillian G. ’21

On a Friday afternoon in September, I faced a serious dilemma: I needed food, and I needed it fast. My friend introduced me to a restaurant I had passed by a few times: The Chicken & Rice Guys. Upon walking into the bright and inviting restaurant, I saw plenty of places to sit. I was easily able to order Halal chicken, seasoned and grilled on salad, and a piece of Baklava on an iPad. Three minutes later, my order was ready at the counter in a to-go container that was very secure, compact, and traveled well. The dish I ordered also came with two pieces of toasted pita bread. I added their Garlic sauce, which my friend recommended, and it did not disappoint. When ordering a person can choose from a base of either salad or rice, add a filling of meat or tofu, and side, like pita chips or baklava. The meal I ordered The Chicken and Rice Guys was very fresh and flavorful. The variety of sauces adds to each meal; they have BBQ, Creamy Garlic, Mint Cilantro & Jalapeno, Hot, and Extra Hot Sauce. The portion sizes were substantial.

The Chicken & Rice Guys started out as a food truck in Boston and now have brick and mortar locations across the Greater Boston area and even one in Texas. They specialize in Middle Eastern street-style food and have options ranging from Rice Plates to house-made Pita Chips. The Chicken and Rice Guys not only offer a plethora of tasty eats but also give back to the community in numerous ways. They help student groups raise money for different clubs or organizations by setting up their food truck at their campuses, as well as donating food to various groups in Boston and providing food to blood donors at the MGH Blood Donor Center. I went to their location in downtown Boston, which is accessible on the T from Downtown Crossing on the Red Line or Government Center on the Green Line. I recommend The Chicken and Rice Guys because not only do they offer a variety of flavorful options at a reasonable price point, but they also give back to our community. Check them out in Boston, Medford, Texas, or wherever they choose to park their food truck next!
