Rickroll 2.0

By Evangeline L. ’24

Let’s face it: Sending people “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley is getting old. But fear not! I have spent the last several hours in a YouTube rabbit hole searching for the perfect videos to revitalize Rickrolling. I present to you my top picks for Rickrolling 2.0.

5. “Never Gonna Give You Up but the lyrics are in alphabetical order”
This was unexpected and I admire the effort put into it, but it could be more catchy. The comments make this one 1000 times better. (6.5/10)

4. “Never gonna give you up – medieval style” (aka Nev’r Gonna Giveth Thee Up)
The lack of lyrics is slightly disappointing, but this really does make you feel like a medieval jester. This one also gets extra points because Rick Astley is wearing a crown. Surprisingly good study music. (7.5/10)

3. “Never Gonna Give You Up Voice Crack” (Rick Astley has voice cracks throughout the song)
The voice cracks are definitely generous. *Warning* this one is not fun to have stuck in your head, so listen at your own risk. (8/10)

2. “Kermit is never gonna give you up” (Kermit sings “Never Gonna Give You Up”)
Does this one even need a description? Kermit has a whole music video and wears a snazzy suit. I highly recommend watching. (8.5/10)

1. “Google Translate Sings: “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley” (the lyrics have been put through Google translate so many times that they are nonsense)
You won’t mind when it gets stuck in your head for three days because the lyrics are awesome. I used this to Rickroll someone and they said: “I never thought a Rickroll could sound that good.” (10/10)
