Detrás de las meriendas especiales y la próxima batalla de letras está el trabajo duro de Collect, el gobierno estudiantil de Winsor. El grupo está compuesto de representantes de (—) clases V, VI, VII y VIII, junto con un equipo ejecutivo consistiendo del presidente, el vicepresidente, el tesorero y el secretario. El grupo se reúne dos veces cada ciclo para administrar el proceso de proponer y continuar con un club, crear diferentes actividades para la escuela secundaria, y reflexionar y responder a sugerencias de estudiantes, junto con otras responsabilidades también. 

Este año, bajo la guianza del Señor Griffin y la Señora Graham y el liderazgo de Chloe Chao’23 y Gigi Chu’23, Collect ha estado ocupado con justamente esas obligaciones, pero con un énfasis en la idea de actuar en las sugerencias de los estudiantes. Por ejemplo, después del foro de Collect en Diciembre, el grupo hizo un documento que enumeró las sugerencias o los problemas que los estudiantes trajeron a su atención. Debajo de cada problema hubo una explicación de cómo Collect trató de resolver el asunto. De responder a recomendaciones sobre cómo crear una noche de juegos hasta revelar el presupuesto descompuesto del semestre de Collect, el documento tiene más de cinco páginas y engloba los deseos del cuerpo estudiantil. Por ejemplo, una de las sugerencias principales de los estudiantes fue crear una oportunidad para que los clubes del segundo semestre pudieran reclutar miembros. Collect ya estaba consciente de este problema y hace solo unas semanas, la secundaria de Winsor tuvo su primera feria de clubes del segundo semestre. 

Beatrix Picotte ’24, una representante de la clase VII, incluso dijo que crear este documento fue uno de los mejores éxitos de Collect durante este semestre. Más específicamente, dijo, “Creo que en años pasados, se sentía a veces que las preocupaciones de los estudiantes habían sido pasados por alto. Ahora, tenemos una lista concreta que asegura que los estudiantes puedan ver que hemos tratado de resolver sus preocupaciones, incluso si no hemos podido cambiarlos como ellos querían.”

Sin embargo, no es solo la gente más cercana al club que está satisfecha con este documento. Aunque Mina Subramanian ’24 no es parte de Collect, ella aún admira su trabajo, diciendo, “Creo que Collect ha hecho un buen trabajo en aumentar la transparencia a través de respuestas directas a nuestras preguntas y preocupaciones y la inclusión de un gráfico que demuestra el presupuesto de los clubs.”

¡Collect sigue trabajando duro y planeando actividades divertidas para la comunidad—la noche de carnaval es el tercer de Marzo y esperamos verles por una noche muy emocionante!

Behind the Special Snacks and the upcoming Lip Synch Battle is the hard work of Collect, Winsor’s Upper School student government. The group is composed of representatives from classes V, VI, VII and VIII, as well as an executive team consisting of the president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. They meet twice per cycle to manage the process of proposing and continuing clubs, creating different activities for the upper school, and reflecting on and responding to student suggestions, along with other responsibilities.

This year, under the guidance of advisors Mr. Griffin and Ms. Graham as well as the leadership of President Chloe Chao ’23 and Vice President Gigi Chu ’23, Collect has been busy with these obligations, but with a particular emphasis on truly acting upon student suggestions. For example, after the December Collect Forum, in which students had the opportunity to ask questions about Collect, the group shared a Google document with the entire Upper School that listed the suggestions or problems that the students had brought to their attention. Below every problem was an explanation of how Collect tried to resolve the issue. From responding to recommendations about starting a game night to revealing Collect’s budget breakdown for the semester, the lengthy document encompasses the concerns of the student body. For instance, one of the main suggestions from Winsor students was creating an opportunity for semester two clubs to gauge interest from the community. Collect was already aware of this, so just a few weeks ago, the Upper School held its first ever second semester club fair.  

Beatrix Picotte ’24, a Class VII Collect representative, believed that creating this comprehensive document was one of the best things Collect achieved in the fall semester. She stated, “I think in past years, it felt at times like that feedback was overlooked, but now we have a concrete list that ensures people can see how we looked into their ideas, even if we didn’t end up accomplishing exactly what they wanted.”

However, it is not only the people closest to the club that are satisfied with this document. Although Mina Subramanian ’24 is not part of Collect, she still admired the work of the club and said, “I think Collect did a great job of increasing transparency by directly addressing our concerns in a Google doc and including a budget breakdown for clubs.”

Collect is continuing to work hard and plan fun activities for the community—a Club Carnival is planned for March 3, so everyone should prepare to participate in an exciting evening!
