If you haven’t gone apple picking yet, this is your sign! Here in Boston, the best time to go to the apple orchard is September and October. Lookout Farm in Natick is a great option located just 30 minutes outside of Boston. They have a plentiful selection of apples such as Cortland, Gala, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and even Asian Pears. Lookout Farm also has plenty of homemade apple cider donuts, but make sure you go in the morning before they sell out! Another great apple orchard is Honey Pot Hill in Stow, Massachusetts. With an even greater variety of apples, Honey Pot Hill offers apple picking into mid-December. They also have amazing apple cider donuts and plenty of other delicious desserts.
Because apple-picking season is here, we know pumpkin-picking time has also arrived! Lookout Farm and Honey Pot Hill both offer pumpkin picking through October. If you are looking for some extra fun, Honey Pot Hill has several fall-themed activities like a huge hedge maze and a hay ride. There are also many pumpkin and harvest festivals outside of Boston—towns such as Lynnfield, Beverly, and Salem, hold spooky fall festivals that would be a perfect activity for a Sunday this autumn.
