On Friday, February 17, Winsor varsity ice hockey battled Beaver Country Day (BCDS) for a Senior Day win! This game celebrated the seniors, Natalie Pan, Meredith Tangney, Ally Kennedy, and Clara Eikeboom.
Ruth Ness ’29 and Natalie Pan ’23 were a dynamic, ferocious wing pair. Pan scored a goal and beautifully assisted Ness’s two goals. The other seniors fought hard, literally; Meredith Tangney ’23 found herself in the penalty box for slashing. “Happy Senior Day!”, the underclassmen taunted from the bench during her two minute exile. Centers Ally Kennedy ’23 and Clara Eikeboom ’23 won faceoffs and had breakaways — instances where she had a direct shot at the goal with no defending player other than the goalie to block it — throughout the game.
WVH’s goals for this game were to “pass accurately, backcheck, and win”! And that they did, probably thanks to the larger-than-life senior head posters the Winsor community was holding! Goalie Talia Dwyer ’26 had several impressive saves. The scoreboard buzzed, and the Winsor Wildcats won 3-2 against BCDS. “We were so excited to come out with a win!,” said Kennedy ‘23. The entire team sprinted to the goal to congratulate Dwyer and the team. They eventually found themselves on the ice in a quasi pig-pile of laughing and screaming.
After the game, the seniors received souvenirs, and the whole team showcased their musical abilities with a song to the beat of ‘Fergalicious’. Kennedy exclaimed, “the energy on the team that day was amazing.” Thank you so much to everyone who came to the North End to support Winsor varsity ice hockey! Go Wildcats!
